Senior Backend Engineer (Intercom)

Annual pay range: $175,000–$300,000 USD

What you will do

• Build and evolve cloud-managed intercom systems with rich, low-latency video, audio, and access-control interactions.
• Architect scalable backend systems and latency-sensitive applications for intercom devices deployed worldwide.
• Design complex systems with simple, robust backend APIs in collaboration with firmware, mobile, and frontend engineers.
• Own backend systems end to end and drive significant product initiatives from incomplete ideas through delivery.
• Contribute to future capabilities including AI-driven visitor screening and remote environmental sensing.
• Drive technical direction and lead engineers through project execution.

Requirements

• 7+ years of industry experience in backend software engineering.
• 4+ years of backend engineering experience at a rapidly growing startup or innovative company.
• Demonstrated expertise in Python or Go.
• Deep expertise with relational databases; PostgreSQL experience is advantageous.
• Experience driving technical direction, leading project execution, and resolving problems across team boundaries.
• Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related science.

Nice to have

• Kubernetes experience.
• PostgreSQL experience.
