Senior Cyber Defense Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Waltham, Massachusetts, United States (hybrid); occasional travel and after-hours incident response may be required.

Salary: $141,000–$176,900 annually

What you will do

• Analyze emerging threats, adversary techniques, and intelligence sources, translating findings into defensive and engineering improvements.
• Develop and refine detection capabilities, telemetry, monitoring, analytics, and operational visibility across enterprise environments.
• Lead or support security event, incident, suspicious activity, insider risk, and cross-functional investigations.
• Coordinate incident response, containment, recovery, evidence handling, documentation, and post-incident improvements.
• Produce threat intelligence reports, briefings, operational insights, and security communications for technical and business audiences.
• Improve cyber defense maturity through automation, orchestration, workflow engineering, analytics, and AI-assisted operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, information security, computer science, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• Experience in cyber threat intelligence, investigations, security operations, incident response, detection engineering, or a related discipline.
• Strong analytical, investigative, problem-solving, communication, ownership, and continuous learning skills.
• Experience producing intelligence products, investigative reports, operational briefings, or security communications.
• Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work in a hybrid role based in Waltham, Massachusetts, with occasional travel and participation in after-hours operational activities.

Nice to have

• Experience in manufacturing, healthcare, life sciences, or other regulated environments.
• Experience with enterprise cyber defense, monitoring, analytics, detection, response, or observability capabilities.
• Experience developing detections, investigations, operational analytics, or threat-informed defensive controls.
• Familiarity with automation, orchestration, workflow engineering, advanced analytics, or AI-enabled operations.
• Relevant cybersecurity certifications.
