Facilities Area Manager (Manufacturing)

Location: Lansing, Michigan, United States; onsite with full-time reporting to the facility. Weekend, holiday, and evening work may be required. Relocation benefits are available for candidates who qualify under company policy.

What you will do

• Oversee daily maintenance of the manufacturing facility, including building systems, equipment, utilities, and infrastructure.
• Manage renovations, expansions, reconfigurations, and other facility projects within safety, budget, and schedule requirements.
• Coordinate external contractors and service providers for maintenance and repairs.
• Plan routine maintenance for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety systems.
• Monitor expenses, review contracts, identify cost-saving opportunities, and maintain project spending information.
• Investigate security incidents, accidents, and near misses; implement corrective actions and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent professional-level experience.
• 7+ years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment or related function.
• Knowledge of facility maintenance methods, operating requirements, safety precautions, and applicable safety and environmental regulations.
• Strong problem-solving, decision-making, communication, organizational, multitasking, and time-management skills.
• Experience writing Appropriation Requests and managing project spending is required; a record of delivering projects on time and within budget is advantageous.
• Must be able to work onsite in Lansing, Michigan, including holidays, weekends, or evenings when needed, and must already have authorization to work in the United States without GM immigration sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Facilities engineering experience.
• Master’s degree in Engineering.
• Previous manufacturing assignment and a strong working relationship with UAW.
• Established relationships with major functional groups such as GPSC, Engineering, Quality, CME, Advanced PE, Finance, SQE/AQE, and Corporate NPP/MBC staff.
• Experience escalating emerging issues and leading teams to resolve them under pressure.
