Biosafety Officer/Chemical Safety Officer

What you will do

• Develop, implement, and maintain chemical, biological, and environmental health and safety programs.
• Establish safety standards, procedures, documentation, training, and regulatory compliance processes.
• Serve on the Institutional Biosafety Committee and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, and chair the Chemical Safety Committee.
• Conduct laboratory and research facility audits, document non-compliance, and recommend and track corrective actions.
• Monitor work involving hazardous biological materials and recombinant DNA, including inspections, incident investigations, and emergency response planning.
• Coordinate hazardous waste disposal, exposure and incident notifications, autoclave and laboratory hood testing, and bloodborne pathogen program administration.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
• At least four years of related experience.
• Knowledge of biological and chemical regulations, federal laboratory biosafety levels, and applicable guidelines.
• Strong computer, verbal, written communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage multiple responsibilities.
• Work is based in San Antonio, Texas.

Nice to have

• Degree in chemistry, biology, environmental health and safety, industrial hygiene, or occupational health and safety.
• Experience in biosafety administration, program management, risk management, research compliance, or chemical safety.
• Master’s degree or seven years of related experience.
• CBSP, RBP, CIH, CSP, or CHMM certification.
