Lead AI Engineer (AWS)

Location: North York, Ontario, Canada; hybrid work from home or the office based on business and client needs.

Salary: CAD 90,000–140,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, develop, deploy, operate, and support enterprise AI, machine learning, and generative AI solutions on AWS.
• Build Amazon Bedrock applications using prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, tool use, intelligent agents, and workflow automation.
• Design secure RAG pipelines covering ingestion, chunking, embeddings, indexing, retrieval, grounding, evaluation, and governance.
• Engineer agentic solutions with orchestration, state and memory, controlled tool access, error handling, human approval points, and auditable execution.
• Build serverless and containerized services using AWS Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, EventBridge, ECS, or EKS.
• Implement security, observability, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, operational runbooks, post-production support, and performance and cost optimization.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years building and operating AWS solutions.
• Production experience delivering AI, machine learning, or generative AI solutions.
• Strong Python skills and experience with RESTful APIs, event-driven services, automated testing, Git, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
• Hands-on experience with Amazon Bedrock, AWS Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, EventBridge, S3, DynamoDB, Aurora or RDS, IAM, KMS, monitoring, and tracing.
• Experience with RAG systems, AI agents, vector search, Docker, and at least one of Amazon ECS or Amazon EKS; strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Bedrock Knowledge Bases, Guardrails, Agents for Amazon Bedrock, or Bedrock AgentCore.
• Experience with Amazon SageMaker, OpenSearch, PostgreSQL with pgvector, AWS Glue, PySpark, or analytics workloads.
• Experience with React, Amazon QuickSight, or a relevant AWS certification.
