Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; home office at 815 Eleventh Ave

Salary: $143,000–$286,000 annual base salary, plus performance-based bonuses and possible stock compensation

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of scalable cloud-native software platforms.
• Develop advanced eCommerce search capabilities and optimization algorithms for Walmart International markets.
• Build AI-driven applications and integrate machine learning platforms and frameworks.
• Conduct system design reviews and ensure solutions meet architectural, quality, resilience, and performance standards.
• Deliver infrastructure, tooling, and platform capabilities aligned with roadmap milestones.
• Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, collaborate with stakeholders, and promote engineering best practices.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience contributing high-quality code to production systems at scale, or the stated minimum of a bachelor's degree plus 4 years of relevant experience or 6 years of relevant experience.
• Deep experience building highly scalable, fault-tolerant microservices with Java or Scala and RESTful architecture.
• Strong command of Java, Spring Boot, distributed systems, multithreading, networking, and performance tuning.
• Hands-on experience with scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and generative AI tools such as ChatGPT.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Helm, Mockito, JUnit, application refactoring, code review, testing, and documentation.
• Experience designing optimization algorithms for search platforms.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related field.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices.
