Senior Plant Operator (Chemical Manufacturing)

Location: Suffolk, Virginia, United States of America; onsite. The first 1–2 years follow a Monday–Friday daytime schedule, after which the role transitions to rotating 12-hour shifts.

Salary: $63,830–$93,610 per year, plus discretionary bonuses.

What you will do

• Operate the plant and handle chemical charges safely while meeting productivity and production targets.
• Support commissioning and startup of a new plant and monitor processes through control systems.
• Conduct routine rounds, complete shift turnovers, and maintain accurate operational documentation.
• Maintain process control and First Pass Quality while coordinating with Maintenance, Lab, Engineering, and Material Handling.
• Manage supplies, raw materials, housekeeping, equipment operation, and waste minimization in the assigned process area.
• Participate in safety reviews, audits, corrective actions, emergency response, and training activities.

Requirements

• High school diploma with proficient math, written, and spoken English.
• Strong knowledge of hazardous chemical handling and the ability to work safely with chemicals, PPE, confined spaces, heights, and respirators.
• Ability to lift 55 pounds, walk extensively, bend, climb stairs continuously, operate forklifts and cleaning equipment, and remain clean-shaven for respirator use.
• Ability to understand and follow Federal and State safety and environmental regulations, including EPA programs, RCRA, DOT, and OSHA.
• Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Ability to complete Hazwoper certification and join the Emergency Response Team.

Nice to have

• Experience with chemical manufacturing equipment such as reactors, distillation columns, and automation systems.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Distributed Control Systems and PLCs, particularly DeltaV, and data historians.
