Staff AI Engineer (Data & Intelligence function)

What you will do

• Write, design, and ship production AI systems as a hands-on individual contributor.
• Build fast customer-context retrieval using semantic search, indexing, embeddings, vector search, hybrid retrieval, and knowledge graphs.
• Develop inference and signal layers over an Iceberg-based lakehouse, including scored outputs and contracts for consuming teams.
• Turn signals such as churn risk, entitlement mismatches, and expansion opportunities into automated workflows with appropriate human review.
• Select and optimize large models, fine-tuned models, or deterministic code while managing inference cost.
• Establish evaluation, observability, and reusable engineering patterns for AI systems across product and platform teams.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years shipping AI or ML systems to production.
• Strong programming fundamentals and deep proficiency in at least one AI or data programming language; Python is the primary ML language.
• Advanced SQL, a transformation layer such as dbt, and experience with distributed query engines, lakehouse or warehouse storage, query cost, and partitioning.
• Production experience with retrieval and context engineering, agentic systems, durable workflows, tool calling, state, memory, and human-in-the-loop patterns.
• Experience with AI evaluation and observability, including tracing, prompt and version management, and dataset-driven testing.
• Cloud deployment experience, preferably AWS, with containerized services and ownership of inference costs; a computer science degree or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience building shared data or ML capabilities used by multiple teams.
• Small-model and fine-tuned-model development, model distillation, OpenTelemetry, and high-volume observability data.
• Data governance experience covering access control, lineage, and data residency.
• Enterprise SaaS or CMS experience, especially with Drupal-based digital experience platforms.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools, MCP, and presenting AI system designs to engineering and executive stakeholders.
