Process Engineer Intern - Summer 2027

Location: Whiting, Wisconsin, United States. This is an onsite role at the Whiting Mill, with regular work on the operating floor and required PPE. The 10-week internship starts in May 2027; evening and weekend work may occasionally be required.

Starting pay: $22.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Support process efficiency improvements, cost savings initiatives, and technology advancements.
• Participate in mill and production line operations to learn paper and paper-based material properties and quality issues.
• Identify paper defects and develop plans to resolve them.
• Update mill documentation and drawings and help create or modify standard operating procedures.
• Participate in customer and product trials and complete assigned projects with defined deliverables.
• Attend leadership meetings and report on project progress and findings.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a degree program focused on Paper Science, Chemistry, or Engineering, with at least one completed year of coursework.
• Solid Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
• Ability to analyze information, synthesize and communicate findings, collaborate effectively, meet deadlines, and work independently.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment physical capabilities test, drug and alcohol screening, and background check.
• Must be at least 18 years old and able to work on the operating floor while wearing required PPE.
• Physical ability to stand, sit, walk, talk, bend, twist, balance, and maintain close vision and depth perception.

Nice to have

• Minimum 3.0 GPA in the relevant academic field.
• Prior internship experience.
