Sr R&D Manager - Commercial System Manager (Quantum Computing)

Salary: $207,000–$258,750 annually, including bonus target

What you will do

• Lead system-level design, construction, development, integration, and release of next-generation trapped-ion quantum computer systems.
• Own system architecture, concepts of operation, procurement and construction planning, configuration management, and system validation and verification.
• Guide technical trade studies and analyses to reduce project risks and mature early concepts into design directions.
• Develop test plans and coordinate handoffs across electrical, optical, microfabrication, software, vacuum, and cryogenic subsystem teams.
• Set team milestones, transition gates, resource priorities, and risk and opportunity plans.
• Mentor, coach, hire, evaluate, and support the career development of engineers and scientists.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher.
• At least 8 years of technical research and development experience, including graduate school.
• At least 5 years of experience developing or operating AMO and/or quantum computing systems.
• At least 2 years leading an advanced technical team, through task leadership, personnel management, or both.
• Direct technical-industry people management experience.
• Must be a U.S. Person, such as a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or green card holder, or a worker granted asylum or refugee status. Candidates must not be nationals of China or Russia unless also a U.S. citizen.

Nice to have

• Master’s or PhD in physics, engineering, computer science, or a related field.
• 15+ years of relevant technical experience and 5+ years of leadership experience.
• Quantum computing industry experience and expertise in trapped-ion or cold atom physics.
• Experience managing complex technical tasks involving cost, schedule, risk, and opportunities.
• Technology development experience and a strong professional network.
