Director, General Counsel - Lending (Lending)

Location: New York, United States; hybrid work model with in-office and work-from-home flexibility.

Base salary: $260,000–$315,000 per year, plus eligibility for a discretionary bonus.

ING’s Americas Wholesale Banking division provides financial products and services to domestic and international corporate and institutional clients.

What you will do

• Provide legal support to the Lending business across trade and commodities finance, receivables financings, letters of credit, and secured lending transactions.
• Advise lending teams and Wholesale Banking affiliates on U.S. banking laws, regulatory requirements, compliance matters, and market practice.
• Review, draft, and negotiate commercial, corporate, operational, and lending-related agreements.
• Advise senior management on corporate governance, regulatory developments, and material legal risks.
• Create and maintain legal policies, procedures, guidelines, best practices, and template documentation.
• Deliver legal and regulatory training and collaborate with global legal teams on the extraterritorial impact of U.S. laws.

Requirements

• J.D. and active New York Bar admission with strong academic credentials.
• At least 7 years of post-qualification experience as a New York Bar attorney.
• Strong expertise in trade and commodities finance, receivables financings, letters of credit, and secured lending transactions.
• In-depth knowledge of bank regulatory matters, including BIC facility and discount window matters.
• Commercial judgment, a solutions-oriented approach, and the ability to work independently in a high-volume, time-sensitive environment.
• Strong stakeholder management, collaboration, attention to detail, and senior-level communication skills.
