Spacecraft Flight Software Engineer (C/C++)

Location: Onsite in Los Angeles, California, United States. An active or obtainable United States Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance is required.

Salary: $60,000–$180,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Build and maintain spacecraft flight software architectures and implement mission-specific software components and communication protocols.
• Develop telemetry, time-stamping, scheduling, bus communication, FPGA, and GPIO interfaces for spacecraft hardware.
• Design memory storage solutions and implement boot behavior, partition swapping, and fail-safe recovery modes.
• Manage the GitLab codebase and CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and development.
• Execute software test campaigns on flatsat testbeds and flight units and integrate subsystems with the spacecraft main compute element.
• Document designs and test results, ensure compliance with standards, and provide technical guidance on flight software architecture.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
• 5–7 years of hands-on spacecraft or aerospace flight software development and testing experience.
• Proficiency in Python, C/C++, embedded Linux, GitLab, and CI/CD workflows.
• Active or obtainable United States Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance.
• Strong collaboration, problem-solving, attention to detail, and professional communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with FPrime or CFS and computer architecture concepts including operating systems, memory architecture, and I/O interfaces.
• Experience with I2C, CAN, UART, RS485, FPGA and GPIO interfaces.
• Experience in clean room environments, ESD protocols, memory management, file systems, and embedded bootloader development.
