Bioprocess Engineer, Manufacturing Technology

Location: Niebüll, Germany; based at the manufacturing site with regional travel required

What you will do

• Manage inter-site process transfers and ensure operational readiness for manufacturing implementation.
• Lead the industrialization of new strains and support scale-up from development to commercial production.
• Drive process improvement initiatives focused on portfolio optimization, process performance, and cost efficiency.
• Investigate manufacturing issues, lead root cause analyses, and implement sustainable corrective solutions.
• Collaborate with Process Research & Development, Quality, Supply Chain, and Product Development teams on project execution and knowledge transfer.
• Support capital investment projects with process expertise and basic data while monitoring operational performance and compliance.

Requirements

• Master’s or engineering degree in Bioprocess Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 3 years of bioprocess engineering experience in an industrial or pilot-scale manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of industrial microbiology, fermentation technologies, downstream processing, and unit operations including centrifugation, membrane filtration, cryogenic freezing, and lyophilization.
• Understanding of process equipment, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, instrumentation, piping systems, and utilities.
• Experience leading process improvement initiatives and managing technical projects using digital and data-driven approaches.
• Fluent German and English, written and spoken; willingness to travel regionally to manufacturing sites is required.

• Experience in cultures, probiotics, food ingredients, biotechnology, or fermentation industries.
• Project and stakeholder management experience in a global matrix organization.
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical manufacturing solutions.
• Adaptability, anticipation, interpersonal skills, and an affinity for field work.
