TL;DR
Thermal Engineer – Liquid Cooling (High-Power Data-Center Hardware): Designing, modeling, validating, and integrating advanced cooling systems for high-power electronic equipment with an accent on liquid cooling, two-phase cooling, and thermal simulation. Focus on developing heat sinks and cold plates, correlating models with physical tests, integrating rack-level cooling infrastructure, and resolving thermal-reliability challenges.

Location: On-site in Santa Clara, California, United States

Salary: $200,000–$250,000 base salary plus equity

Company

Develops high-performance hardware for advanced data-center applications.

What you will do

  • Design heat sinks, cold plates, liquid-cooling loops, and advanced air-, liquid-, and two-phase-cooling solutions.
  • Develop thermal models and simulations, then conduct physical testing, validation, and model correlation.
  • Integrate cooling systems into broader hardware architectures and troubleshoot thermal-performance and reliability issues.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and systems-engineering teams.
  • Build technical relationships with cooling-component suppliers and evaluate emerging thermal technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • 10+ years of thermal-design experience, including at least two years designing liquid- or two-phase-cooling systems.
  • Strong knowledge of heat-transfer fundamentals and experience taking thermal designs from modeling through physical validation.
  • Proficiency with Flotherm, Flotherm XT, FloEFD, Icepak, or equivalent thermal-analysis tools.
  • Experience designing cooling solutions for high-power commercial electronic systems.
  • Understanding of data-center liquid-cooling systems, including in-chassis loops, rack interfaces, coolant distribution units, and facility-side connections.

Nice to have

  • Experience with networking, server, telecom, or comparable high-power rack-mounted equipment.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work within an experienced team developing next-generation data-center hardware.
  • Opportunity to own technically challenging thermal systems from early analysis through system integration.
  • Equity included in the compensation package.
