Thermal Engineering Intern (Aerospace)

Location: On-site in Redondo Beach, California, for the duration of the 12-week internship

Compensation: $30.00 per hour, with overtime pay eligibility

What you will do

• Support the development and maintenance of thermal models for spacecraft, systems, and components.
• Determine physical properties, thermal environments, and boundary conditions.
• Help select and design thermal management hardware, including heat pipes, radiators, heaters, thermal coatings, tape, and multilayer insulation.
• Support thermal-cycle and vacuum testing of spacecraft and components.
• Analyze test data to correlate models and improve model fidelity.
• Document thermal analyses, designs, and test results while collaborating with design engineers.

Requirements

• Completed or in-progress degree in engineering or science.
• Understanding of heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
• Ability to take ownership of projects and work effectively in a small team.
• Willingness and ability to work on-site in Redondo Beach, CA throughout the internship.
• Must meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements as a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual, or person eligible to obtain the required authorizations.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience designing, building, and testing hardware.
• Experience with thermal testing, vacuum testing, or temperature instrumentation.
• Familiarity with CAD software and engineering analysis tools such as Siemens Simcenter, ANSYS Thermal, Thermal Desktop, MATLAB, or Python.
