Senior Backend Engineer (Databases/Analytics)

Location: Remote; applicants must be located in Spain, Sweden, the UK, Ireland or Germany

Base compensation in Spain: €83,000–€103,700 per year, plus restricted stock units.

hirify.global develops Grafana Cloud, an open-source observability platform for monitoring systems, infrastructure and enterprise data.

What you will do

• Design, implement, test and operate database components covering ingestion, query planning, distributed query execution, data formats and storage formats.
• Build the architecture of a scalable multi-tenant database SaaS, including tenant isolation, usage tracking, quotas, audit logs and background jobs.
• Develop APIs and database interfaces for AI agents, MCP tools, command-line interfaces and internal applications to retrieve enterprise data.
• Make architectural and product trade-offs as the system evolves from prototype to production.
• Instrument services with metrics, logs, traces, alerts and dashboards, and use observability data to improve reliability.
• Shape service boundaries, storage choices, API contracts, deployment patterns and engineering practices for a new product area.

Requirements

• Senior-level experience building production-grade, user-facing software systems.
• Experience with distributed systems, data catalogs, table formats and query engines.
• Mastery of Go, C++ or Rust.
• Experience delivering software used in production, working in cloud-native environments such as AWS, GCP or Azure, and using observability tools.
• Practical familiarity with AI technologies and frameworks, plus the ability to work independently in ambiguous environments.
• Applicants must be located in Spain, Sweden, the UK, Ireland or Germany.

Nice to have

• Experience building distributed query engines.
• Experience with data warehouses, data lakes or data engineering tools.
