Workers' Compensation Senior Counsel

Location: Rancho Cordova, California, United States; regular attendance at court events, depositions, and other appointments is required, with travel as needed for business purposes.

Annual base salary: $132,800–$219,100, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Independently manage high-exposure workers' compensation cases and complex litigation matters from inception through trial and appeal.
• Try cases to verdict, negotiate resolutions, and handle hearings, depositions, dispositive motions, and other court proceedings.
• Conduct advanced legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other substantive legal documents.
• Provide case analysis, handling recommendations, and legal updates to insured clients and Claims partners.
• Work with expert witnesses and consultants to develop case strategies and prepare testimony.
• Mentor attorneys and legal support staff while managing client relationships and special projects.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree from an accredited law school.
• At least 7 years of experience as a practicing attorney in insurance defense litigation.
• Active license in good standing to practice law in the state or states where representation is required.
• Proven experience litigating jury trials, with strong oral advocacy, legal writing, negotiation, and legal research skills.
• Ability to attend and transport to hearings, trials, depositions, and other court proceedings; a valid driver's license may be required depending on location.
• Ability to manage complex caseloads, collaborate with clients and business partners, and mentor other legal professionals.
