Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; onsite at the Crossman Excellence Building

Annual salary: $143,000–$286,000, plus performance bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Lead architecture and detailed design for complex distributed, integrated systems and establish reusable engineering standards.
• Build intelligent workflows for change requests, risk assessment, approval routing, scheduling, validation, and verification.
• Design event-driven and API-based integrations across topology, configuration, policy, incident, and operational data.
• Architect AI/ML and LLM capabilities for anomaly detection, classification, recommendations, risk scoring, and operational decision support.
• Develop production AI lifecycle capabilities covering data ingestion, model integration, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, guardrails, and continuous improvement.
• Drive reliability, scalability, observability, performance, failure handling, recovery, and rollback for critical services while mentoring engineers and influencing cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of software engineering experience with a relevant bachelor’s degree, or 6 years of software engineering experience.
• Extensive experience building production-grade distributed systems and strong programming skills in Python, Java, JavaScript, PowerShell, or equivalent languages.
• Experience with REST APIs, event-driven systems, webhooks, asynchronous workflows, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and production operations.
• Hands-on experience with Azure, GCP, or comparable cloud platforms, plus SQL/NoSQL databases, data pipelines, caching, messaging, and distributed data processing.
• Experience integrating AI/ML models or LLM APIs into production applications, including grounding, retrieval, context management, evaluation, explainability, guardrails, and failure handling.
• Experience with ServiceNow Change Management or comparable ITSM platforms, with strong attention to data quality, lineage, security, and governance.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or a related field.
• Knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility practices.
