Applied AI Engineer (AI)

Location: New York City; in-person, five days a week in the office. Candidates should be located in the New York metropolitan area or be open to relocation to the United States.

Base salary: $250,000–$325,000, plus equity.

What you will do

• Improve AI-agent functionality, including interaction design, tool use, context handling, orchestration, reliability, and model behavior.
• Optimize simulation pipelines to increase throughput and efficiency for large or repeated runs.
• Build evaluation harnesses and supporting architecture for testable, reproducible agent and simulation capabilities.
• Prototype and evaluate new product ideas through focused experiments and technical investigations.
• Work across engineering and Deployment teams to make new capabilities usable, supportable, and dependable.
• Write technical designs and documentation covering assumptions, dependencies, tradeoffs, and risks.

Requirements

• Strong general software engineering fundamentals and the ability to work across layers of a system.
• Comfort working with loosely specified problems and converting ambiguity into useful next steps.
• Experience with testability, evaluation, performance, maintainability, deployment, and iterative improvement.
• Direct communication skills and the ability to make technical tradeoffs clear across functions.
• Fluency with technologies such as Python, TypeScript, React, APIs, workflow systems, relational data models, and cloud infrastructure, or equivalent depth in a comparable stack.
• Availability to work in person in New York City five days per week, or willingness to relocate.

Nice to have

• Experience building AI-native products, agents, LLM applications, or systems where model behavior materially shaped the user experience.
• Experience building evaluation tools, test harnesses, reproducible fixtures, or regression-detection systems.
• Experience improving throughput, performance, or reliability in data, compute, or workflow pipelines.
• Experience at an early-stage company or owning a broad problem from initial idea through production.
