DevEx Engineering Manager (Kubernetes)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States. The role follows a four-day in-office work model and is mostly on-site.

Base salary: $158,950–$205,700 annually, plus potential annual incentive compensation and long-term equity participation where applicable.

What you will do

• Lead and grow a DevEx/platform engineering team, including hiring and performance management.
• Own developer experience as an internal product and remove tooling, infrastructure, and deployment blockers for engineering teams.
• Set platform strategy and align the roadmap with delivery-team needs.
• Own GitHub Actions CI pipelines and their integration with deployment tooling, Kubernetes, Helm, and ArgoCD.
• Measure delivery and production health, define service-level objectives and error budgets, and improve deployment frequency, lead time, failure rate, and recovery time.
• Lead reliability practices, disaster-recovery design and drills, architecture decision records, and earlier integration of information-security controls.

Requirements

• Experience leading platform, developer experience, infrastructure, or reliability engineering teams.
• Experience hiring and growing a team from a small base and treating an internal platform as a product.
• Experience with service-level objectives, error budgets, recovery objectives, incident practices, observability, and production readiness.
• Ability to author design documents and architecture decision records before implementation.
• At least 8 years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree, or 10+ years without a degree, including 3+ years leading relevant teams.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Deep experience with Kubernetes, Nomad, or similar container orchestrators.
• Infrastructure as code, strong Linux fundamentals, and experience operating production systems under real load.
• Experience with regulated financial infrastructure and formal recovery obligations.
• Experience with AWS, Azure, GCP, on-premise infrastructure, or establishing a platform function from scratch.
