TL;DR
Environmental Inspector 2 (Environmental Compliance/Utility Construction): Supporting environmental compliance for electric and gas construction projects with an accent on field inspections, permitting, erosion and sediment control, and restoration requirements. Focus on documenting site conditions, identifying noncompliance and contamination, coordinating corrective actions, and protecting water and other sensitive resources during utility construction.
Location: Merrillville, Indiana, United States; frequent travel to construction sites and utility rights-of-way is required. Overnight travel, work outside normal hours, and emergency response support may be required.
Salary: $62,000–$86,800 per year

What you will do
- Review environmental compliance plans and provide technical input during planning, bidding, constructability, and preconstruction activities.
- Conduct and document environmental inspections and audits, including photographs, reports, certifications, and compliance findings.
- Evaluate erosion and sediment controls, water-resource crossings, sensitive-resource protections, project boundaries, and restoration activities.
- Identify noncompliance, spills, contamination, and unanticipated discoveries; recommend corrective actions and coordinate responses.
- Monitor soil, water, waste, spoils, seed, sampling results, and restoration requirements.
- Communicate requirements to contractors and project stakeholders, provide guidance and training, and maintain document control and credentials.
Requirements
- Associate degree in environmental science, natural resources, ecology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- At least 3 years of environmental or stormwater inspection experience.
- Knowledge of environmental compliance, permitting, erosion and sediment control, restoration, and utility construction practices.
- Ability to obtain and maintain environmental certifications, Operator Qualifications, and applicable state credentials.
- Valid driver's license, ability to travel, and physical ability to navigate construction sites and utility rights-of-way.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must not require employer sponsorship now or in the future.
Nice to have
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- More than three years of environmental or stormwater inspection experience, including utility construction experience.
- Current CESSWI or CPESC certification.
