Associate Director, SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting (Biotech)

Location: Hybrid role based at the San Diego Headquarters, United States

Salary: $156K–$195K per year

What you will do

• Lead the preparation, review, and timely filing of Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, the annual proxy statement, and other SEC filings.
• Own financial statements, footnotes, MD&A, disclosure checklists, XBRL tagging, tie-out documentation, and reporting workpapers.
• Provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions, including licensing and collaboration arrangements, business development transactions, equity financings, stock-based compensation, leases, and earnings per share.
• Design, implement, and continuously improve the company’s SOX compliance framework, including risk assessment, control testing, remediation, and optimization.
• Coordinate with Legal, Equity Administration, FP&A, Human Resources, auditors, consultants, and internal audit providers.
• Prepare materials for the Audit Committee, Board of Directors, senior management, and executive leadership.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field and 10–12+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Active CPA license required.
• Extensive experience leading SEC reporting and SOX compliance in a public or recently public company.
• Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP, SEC Regulations S-X and S-K, public-company disclosures, and SOX 404 compliance.
• Experience researching complex accounting matters and preparing technical accounting memoranda.
• Strong written and verbal communication, influence, negotiation, and executive-partnering skills.

Nice to have

• Big Four public accounting and public-company industry experience.
• Biotechnology or life-sciences experience.
• Experience with NetSuite, ActiveDisclosure, Workiva, or Equity Edge.
• Interest in automation, data analytics, or emerging AI technologies for financial reporting and compliance.
