Firmware/Software Engineer Senior

Location: Lincolnshire, Illinois, United States; hybrid work with at least 3 days per week onsite at the corporate office

Salary: $96,800–$145,200 annual base pay, plus a target performance-based cash incentive equal to 10% of base pay.

What you will do

• Establish, maintain, and enhance embedded firmware for thermal printer products and solutions.
• Research, design, and develop platform technologies aligned with product strategy.
• Work across product frameworks, hardware abstraction layers, Linux kernel drivers, peripheral and network communication, and real-time controls.
• Lead requirements meetings and complete moderately complex firmware design projects through all phases.
• Review test results, perform root-cause analysis, resolve complex technical issues, and develop new firmware solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering, testing, and implementation functions to improve product quality, execution efficiency, and performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with 6+ years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with 4+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent experience.
• Significant experience delivering platform-product embedded firmware.
• Proficiency in C and C++ programming.
• Experience with ARM architecture, embedded microcontrollers, multicore systems, RTOS, embedded Linux, filesystems, storage memory, networking, and platform libraries.
• Knowledge of platform architecture, object-oriented programming, software design patterns, and device-driver development.
• Ability to work onsite in Lincolnshire, Illinois at least 3 days per week in a hybrid arrangement.

Nice to have

• Experience with I2C, SPI, UART, USB, CAN, Modbus, WLAN, PWM, ADC, Bluetooth, Ethernet, and microcontroller peripherals.
• Experience using oscilloscopes, bus analyzers, emulators, and firmware debugging tools.
• Knowledge of electrical interfaces, schematics, electronic components, and datasheets.
• Experience with RTOS and POSIX implementations, scheduling, synchronization, interrupt service routines, filesystems, memory allocation, MQTT, security, or stepper motors.
• Experience with Agile development, prototype board bring-up, bootloader development, or the ARMCC toolchain.
