Senior Formulation Chemist (Home Care)

Location: Berkeley, California, United States; onsite work includes laboratory testing, production trials, and scale-up activities at manufacturing facilities.

Salary: $110,000–$130,000 per year

What you will do

• Develop new formula prototypes and conduct laboratory testing to support product innovation.
• Collaborate with product development and cross-functional teams on technical readiness and testing updates.
• Participate in production trials and scale formulations from the laboratory through pilot plant and full production.
• Document experiments, stability testing, analytical results, and traceability records.
• Analyze test results, identify product improvements, and maintain quality control procedures.
• Manage laboratory safety, supplies, raw materials, and supplier relationships.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with Design of Experiments, mixture experiments, and statistical approaches to chemical product formulation.
• Experience developing home care formulations such as laundry products, all-purpose cleaners, automatic dishwashing products, or floor cleaners.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to adapt to uncertainty, pivot quickly, and maintain precise, data-driven records.
• Ability to follow laboratory safety protocols under applicable county and state regulations.

Nice to have

• 5+ years of formulation and product development experience in personal care, beauty, or home care products.
• Familiarity with JMP for ANOVA, Design of Experiments, and process control.
