Principal Engineer, Utility (Solar PV/BESS)

Location: United States, Louisville, Colorado, or remote within the US; up to 25% travel to project sites and partner offices.

Salary: $145,000–$181,050 per year, plus annual bonus.

What you will do

• Lead engineering for utility-scale solar photovoltaic and battery energy storage projects during late-stage development, construction, and operations.
• Manage engineering consultants and EPC contractors through construction drawing development, material support, RFIs, submittals, and contract negotiations.
• Conduct technical due diligence, design reviews, value engineering, equipment specification reviews, and compliance assessments.
• Provide technical support during construction, quality assurance and quality control, testing, commissioning, and punch-list resolution.
• Support financing, development, project management, operations, and asset management teams with technical and financial inputs.
• Mentor engineers, evaluate emerging technologies and vendors, and drive process improvements across the organization.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in engineering or an equivalent technical field.
• 10+ years of professional experience in energy system design, project or land development, and/or construction.
• 5+ years of experience in project management, consulting, or project engineering.
• Experience designing the generator side of utility-scale PV and BESS projects, or expertise in stormwater, grading, and permitting.
• Experience managing consultants, vendors, and internal stakeholders, with strong communication, planning, and task-management skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and direct project experience with Procore.

Nice to have

• Graduate engineering degree, EIT or PE qualification, or NABCEP PV Installation Professional certification.
• Knowledge of BESS fire safety codes and standards.
• Experience with ETAP, SKM, PVsyst, AutoCAD Civil 3D, substation or high-voltage design, SCADA, structural engineering, or commissioning.
• Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese.
