Sr. Staff Manufacturing Engineer - Atlas (Robotics)

Location: Waltham Office, United States; on-site prototype build and manufacturing floor support required

Salary: $135,000–$175,000 annually

What you will do

• Develop and scale Atlas production processes and assembly workflows from prototype through low-volume production.
• Design production systems, material flows, value-stream maps, floor layouts, automation integrations, and process documentation.
• Provide DFM/DFA input and collaborate with Hardware Engineering, Prototype Operations, Systems Engineering, Behavior, Software, Supply Chain, and suppliers.
• Design, fabricate, validate, and qualify fixtures, tools, jigs, and automation equipment for precision assembly, alignment, testing, and actuation systems.
• Support prototype builds hands-on by troubleshooting assembly issues, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions.
• Lead inspection, test, process-control, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous-improvement activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 8–15 years of experience in process engineering, process development, or advanced manufacturing.
• Expert proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks or CATIA, including tool and fixture design and engineering drawing review.
• Experience with DFM/DFA, custom tooling, fixtures, automation equipment, precision assembly, GD&T, and inspection processes.
• Experience in prototype, low-volume, or high-mix production environments, including direct on-site manufacturing floor support.
• Hands-on capability in additive manufacturing, rapid prototyping, machining, welding, grinding, and bending.

Nice to have

• Experience with motor and actuation manufacturing, humanoid or robotic development, precision motion systems, actuators, or advanced sensors.
• Experience with PLM, MES, contract manufacturers, suppliers, or external design firms.
• Experience transitioning research programs into products and TWI Job Instruction or Job Methods certification.
