Senior UX Specialist (SWY-PACS)

What you will do

• Lead UX research, design recommendations, requirements gathering, and cross-functional collaboration for U.S. Coast Guard software modernization.
• Plan research, interview stakeholders, create user personas, and guide Agile teams toward user-centered solutions.
• Design and document end-to-end user journey maps to identify operational pain points and define actionable software requirements.
• Plan and conduct usability testing with live applications and high-fidelity prototypes, then use feedback to improve interfaces and workflows.
• Develop standardized UX research, journey-mapping, and requirements-definition processes across the Software Yard.
• Ensure digital products support universal accessibility and collaborate with product owners, engineers, and delivery teams to implement designs accurately.

Requirements

• 6–9 years of experience or equivalent experience, with dedicated UX design, user research, and digital strategy experience.
• Experience creating user personas, conducting user interviews and surveys, and mapping complex user journeys.
• Experience planning and executing usability testing for live software applications or high-fidelity prototypes.
• Strong knowledge of human-centered design and experience integrating UX workflows into Agile/Scrum development.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including documenting design frameworks and presenting recommendations to product leadership.
• Must be able to attain and maintain a U.S. Coast Guard Public Trust clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting U.S. Coast Guard missions, C5I Software Yard programs, or similar technical directorates.
• Knowledge of Section 508, WCAG accessibility standards, and federal digital strategy playbooks.
• Proficiency with Figma, Adobe XD, Axure, and UX research repository platforms.
• Experience collaborating with backend engineers, system architects, and capability developers.
• Familiarity with federal software pathways, military operational environments, or disconnected and low-bandwidth interfaces.
