Avionics Mechanical Engineer (Hypersonic)

Location: Mojave, California, United States. The position is based onsite and may require alternative shifts, weekend work, and less than 5% travel.

What you will do

• Develop and mature requirements for avionics systems and units.
• Design electronic enclosures, create 3D CAD models, and perform structural, heat transfer, and thermal analyses.
• Create production drawings and collaborate with machine shops, manufacturing teams, and vendors to ensure manufacturability and correct installation.
• Support test planning, failure analysis, hardware and software qualification, environmental testing, and flight testing.
• Optimize avionics packaging processes, including process monitors, yield improvement, reliability targets, and pass/fail metrics.
• Prepare and present design and test readiness review materials while coordinating with avionics, structures, and manufacturing leads.

Requirements

• Level II: bachelor's degree and 2–5 years of relevant experience; Sr-level: 5–10 years; Staff-level: 10–20 years, or equivalent experience.
• Significant experience with electronics or avionics packaging, mechanical design, manufacturing, or aircraft systems.
• Experience with metallic structures design, manufacturing, fundamental structural and thermal calculations, and basic analysis simulations.
• Experience with technical aerospace work, vendors, risk management, and critical-path workflows.
• Experience with 3D CAD and simulation tools; Siemens NX, Teamcenter, SolidWorks, and related configuration management systems are relevant.
• Ability to acquire and maintain a security clearance is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with vibration, thermal, and shock testing, hands-on aerospace fabrication, DFMA, and transition to Low Rate Initial Production.
• Experience with hypersonic, supersonic, air-launched vehicles, or composite structures.
• Active S, TS, or SCI security clearance.
• Experience with FEMAP or Nastran.
