Director, State Government Affairs

Location: Hybrid; must live in the Washington, D.C. or Sacramento, California areas. Travel for work is required once a month.

Salary: $157,667–$283,801 base pay annually, with eligibility for variable pay.

What you will do

• Monitor state legislative and regulatory proposals across an assigned multi-state portfolio and assess priorities for engagement.
• Lead engagement with state policymakers and regulators alongside consultants, lobbyists, trade associations, coalitions, and outside counsel.
• Develop and execute advocacy strategies, coordinate company and industry positions, and support state political and PAC activities.
• Monitor agency rulemakings and regulatory proceedings, coordinating responses and comment letters.
• Partner with Legal, Compliance, and business teams to assess policy impacts and coordinate response strategies.
• Prepare executive-ready policy analyses, reports, briefing materials, and communications about enacted laws and final regulations.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in state legislative or regulatory policy, a state financial regulatory agency, or a policy-oriented organization focused on state-level issues.
• Must live in the Washington, D.C. or Sacramento, California areas for the hybrid role.
• Availability to travel for work once a month.
• Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Business Administration, Public Policy, or a related field.
• Experience with privacy, financial services, and technology issues.
• Experience working across party lines and extracting key takeaways from legislation.
