Director of Sustainability

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, California; onsite at least two to three days per week. International travel of up to 25–30% may be required.

Salary: $200,000–$236,000 per year for San Francisco.

What you will do

• Define hirify.global’s enterprise sustainability principles, multi-year roadmap, priorities, targets, metrics, and investment requirements.
• Build the sustainability operating model across Product, Industrial Design, Hardware Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Logistics, Legal, Finance, and other functions.
• Measure and reduce product and supply-chain impacts, including Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, waste, resource use, packaging, freight, returns, repair, recycling, and end of life.
• Own supplier sustainability and corporate responsibility programs, including assessments, scorecards, corrective actions, responsible minerals, labor, human rights, and ethical sourcing.
• Establish data controls, compliance processes, sustainability reporting, and accurate internal and external disclosures.
• Lead cross-functional decisions and represent hirify.global with suppliers, manufacturers, customers, retailers, NGOs, regulators, and industry groups.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in sustainability, responsible supply chain, product sustainability, environmental strategy, manufacturing, operations, or a related field.
• Significant experience with hardware, consumer electronics, wearables, or another product-based business.
• Experience defining and executing enterprise sustainability strategies with product and technical teams and building new functions or operating models.
• Strong knowledge of product lifecycle impact, manufacturing, contract manufacturing, sourcing, logistics, materials, packaging, reverse logistics, and end of life.
• Experience with carbon accounting, emissions reduction, lifecycle assessment, supplier sustainability, environmental and social due diligence, and sustainability reporting.
• Working knowledge of the GHG Protocol, EPR, WEEE, RoHS, REACH, UFLPA, ISO 14001, SA8000, EcoVadis, Dodd-Frank, CDP, GRI, or SASB, plus strong executive communication and people-leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating sustainability requirements into product strategy, design reviews, sourcing events, supplier contracts, or manufacturing readiness reviews.
• Experience with repairability, circularity, e-waste, recycled materials, packaging, freight emissions, or renewable energy in manufacturing.
• Experience responding to retailer, customer, investor, or regulatory sustainability requests and building sustainability data models, dashboards, or reporting controls.
• Graduate degree in sustainability, environmental science, engineering, supply chain, public policy, business, or a related field.
