TL;DR

Location: Sacramento, California, United States; hybrid work with required work from the IRC office and field travel throughout the service delivery area

Salary: $29.10–$30 per hour

What you will do

  • Coordinate pre- and post-arrival services, including housing, food, medical care, transportation, and orientation.
  • Provide trauma-informed, client-centered case management and referrals for public benefits, housing, mental health services, healthcare, education, and ESL enrollment.
  • Conduct intake assessments and develop individualized self-sufficiency plans with clients.
  • Monitor client progress, provide advocacy, address challenges, and coordinate appointments, transportation, and interpretation.
  • Maintain detailed case notes, databases, files, reporting records, and client information in accordance with program requirements.
  • Collaborate with IRC colleagues, community agencies, partner organizations, volunteers, and interns; travel using a personal insured vehicle or public transportation as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in social work, migration studies, public health, refugee studies, development, immigration law, or a related field, or at least one year of related professional experience.
  • Relevant human services experience required; two or more years preferred, particularly with refugees, immigrants, asylum-seeking families, internally displaced people, or individuals without status.
  • Fluent English and proficiency in Dari/Farsi and Pashto are required to serve IRC clients.
  • Knowledge of the U.S. immigration system and immigrant rights, with the ability to work with government agencies and community providers.
  • Strong relationship-building, diplomacy, communication, organization, problem-solving, multitasking, and record-keeping skills.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a personal, insured vehicle; proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital data-entry tools.

Culture & Benefits

  • Combination of office, remote, and field work; the position works from the IRC office in Sacramento.
  • Monday–Friday working hours are scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
