Fractional Chief AI Officer (AI)

Location: Remote in Canada; fractional engagement for future opportunities rather than one specific open role.

Typical engagement rate: $250–$350 per hour, scaled by scope and industry.

What you will do

• Develop AI strategies, roadmaps, and investment theses aligned with business priorities.
• Assess AI capabilities, skills gaps, infrastructure, architecture, and tooling needs.
• Shape governance, risk mitigation, and ethical AI frameworks with C-suite and board leadership.
• Build and mentor internal AI teams, defining roles, hiring criteria, and capability-building initiatives.
• Own AI pilots and proof-of-concept initiatives, track outcomes, and communicate ROI.
• Monitor AI market trends and adoption patterns while representing the organization’s AI vision to stakeholders, partners, investors, and the market.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in technology, business transformation, or AI/ML leadership, including at least 5 years at director level or above.
• Hands-on experience shipping AI initiatives from strategy through production deployment and measuring business impact.
• Experience acting as a strategic advisor and board-level communicator, with comfort operating amid ambiguity and emerging technologies.
• Deep knowledge of current AI/ML capabilities, limitations, and enterprise adoption patterns, including working knowledge of LLMs and generative AI.
• Track record of building and scaling technical teams, with strong mentoring and talent development skills.
• Experience with enterprise risk, governance, and ethical AI frameworks, or the ability to learn them quickly in context.
