Bioinformatics Application Scientist (NGS)

Location: USA - South San Francisco, California; remote work is available with up to 10% local and regional travel.

Base salary: $154,000–$180,000 USD annually for the San Francisco Bay Area. The role is also eligible for bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Provide technical expertise in pre-sales and post-sales discussions about NGS capabilities and products.
• Design and support custom NGS panels using existing design workflows.
• Support NGS data analysis, customer troubleshooting, proof-of-concept experiments, and pipeline questions.
• Support sales presentations, customer meetings, experiments, and technical discussions.
• Coordinate customer requirements and feedback with sales, product management, R&D, production, and product marketing.
• Travel locally and regionally, up to approximately 10%, for customer, sales, and internal meetings.

Requirements

• PhD in Bioinformatics, Genetics, Molecular Biology, or a related field plus 2+ years of biotech or commercial genomics experience, or BS/MS plus 7+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong knowledge of NGS applications and bioinformatics for Whole Exome Sequencing, RNA-seq, and methylation analysis.
• Experience with BWA, GATK, IGV, UCSC, SAMtools, Picard, bedtools, and related bioinformatics tools.
• Experience working in Linux and with command-line applications.
• Strong communication, collaboration, attention to detail, self-motivation, and work ethic.
• Ability to work remotely from the United States with up to 10% travel.

Nice to have

• Background in medical genetics, oncology, or immunology.
• Deep understanding of molecular and medical genetics.
• Four or more years of customer-facing experience.
• Wet-lab experience in molecular biology and NGS library preparation.
