Senior Bioinformatics Scientist (Genomics)

Location: England - Cambridge; hybrid or remote working arrangement for the EMEALA Region.

Salary: GBP 44,000–66,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for variable cash programs and, where applicable, equity.

What you will do

• Design, prototype, and implement computational and statistical algorithms that extract biological signals from sequencing assays.
• Develop and optimize high-performance production software using C/C++ and related technologies.
• Analyze, integrate, model, and interpret complex experimental and genomic datasets for product development.
• Advance the DRAGEN platform across germline, somatic, DNA, RNA, structural variant, CNV, and targeted sequencing applications.
• Collaborate with software engineering, FPGA, quality, clinical genomics, scientific, and customer-facing teams.
• Communicate technical approaches and scientific findings through documentation, publications, presentations, and customer-facing materials.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Bioinformatics, or a related discipline, with relevant industry or research experience.
• Strong foundation in computer science, statistics, algorithms, genomics, and next-generation sequencing technologies.
• Experience with secondary analysis methods including mapping, alignment, and variant calling.
• Strong software development skills in C/C++ or similar high-performance programming languages.
• Ability to develop practical computational methods and translate them into robust production environments.
• This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Experience in rare disease research, cancer genomics, or population genetics.
• Experience evaluating new genomic technologies, methodologies, and data-processing approaches.
