HPC Architect (AWS)

Location: North Chicago, Illinois, United States; onsite role.

Salary: $109,500–$208,500 per year.

What you will do

• Architect and evolve on-premises, cloud, and hybrid HPC platforms for scientific and R&D workloads.
• Design and support compute, GPU, networking, storage, workload management, container, and scientific software environments.
• Administer and optimize Slurm, including scheduling policies, GPU allocation, accounting, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
• Integrate Posit and other research platforms with Slurm, identity services, storage, GPUs, and scientific software.
• Lead automation for provisioning, configuration, patching, testing, monitoring, remediation, and lifecycle management.
• Provide technical leadership for architecture reviews, incident reviews, vendor engagements, governance, and engineering mentorship.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 7 years of experience, master’s degree with 6 years, or PhD with 2 years of experience.
• Expertise in Linux, HPC and GPU architectures, NVIDIA GPUs, CUDA, MPI, node provisioning, firmware, drivers, and hardware lifecycle management.
• Strong Slurm experience and knowledge of HPC networking, InfiniBand, RDMA, storage, and distributed filesystems.
• Experience with Apptainer/Singularity, Docker-compatible workflows, container security, Python, R, compilers, modules, and scientific software dependencies.
• Experience with AWS and hybrid HPC architecture, infrastructure as code, automation, DevOps, security, observability, and cost management.
• Leadership experience and background in data science, life sciences, pharmaceutical, regulated, or enterprise IT environments.
