Financial Systems Architect (Workday Financials)

What you will do

• Own the Workday Financials tenant technically across General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Banking & Settlement, security, business processes, and the financial data model.
• Take over the tenant from the implementation partner, document and harden the implementation, close gaps, and establish in-house run responsibility after go-live.
• Design and build Workday-side integrations using EIBs, Core Connectors, Studio, web services, and RaaS, coordinating interface contracts with Data Platform engineers.
• Advise Finance and Accounting on system design, process ownership, Workday capabilities, reporting, dashboards, calculated fields, and self-service analytics.
• Operate Workday as a production system through Tier 2/3 support, root-cause fixes, testing, releases, change documentation, and integration monitoring.
• Assess and configure future expansions including HCM, treasury, automated VAT reporting, global payroll, and related financial capabilities.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of hands-on Workday Financials experience, including a full implementation and post-go-live tenant ownership.
• Deep configuration experience with GL, AP, AR, Banking & Settlement, the business process framework, configurable security, FDM, and worktags.
• Experience with custom and matrix reports, calculated fields, BIRT, and Workday integration tooling including EIBs, Core Connectors, Studio, web services, RaaS, and XSLT.
• Experience connecting SaaS business systems through APIs and integration patterns, with an end-to-end approach to business processes.
• Understanding of chart of accounts, period close, reconciliations, audit requirements, structured troubleshooting, disciplined testing, and technical documentation.
• Excellent English is required; the role is based in Berlin or remote within Germany under a hybrid work model.

Nice to have

• Proficiency in German.
• Workday Pro certification in Financials or Integrations.
• Multi-entity, multi-currency, multi-GAAP, tax, or e-invoicing experience, including Avalara.
• Experience with Accounting Center, Prism Analytics, Extend, Orchestrate, Workday consulting, or a Workday CoE.
• Formal accounting qualifications or experience with internal controls and SOX in a Workday context.
