Senior Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States. Relocation is not available; travel is up to 15%.

Salary: $112,710–$183,140 per year.

What you will do

• Design, prototype, test, and deploy modern software applications, pilots, and reusable components.
• Evaluate and apply generative AI, large language models, AI-assisted development, automation, cloud services, and integration platforms.
• Turn customer needs and technical opportunities into proofs of concept, pilots, MVPs, and production-ready features.
• Apply engineering practices for automated testing, security, observability, performance, maintainability, responsible AI, and operational readiness.
• Partner with product, architecture, data, security, operations, and business stakeholders to define success criteria and transition successful experiments into enterprise solutions.
• Share technical learnings through demos and documentation, mentor others, and promote continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Strong software engineering fundamentals across design, integration, testing, and scalable solution delivery.
• Knowledge of software development, software development life cycle, software integration, product design and architecture, and product testing.
• Hands-on experience with modern development tools, cloud-native patterns, APIs, automation, and AI-enabled capabilities.
• Ability to evaluate emerging technologies, assess risk and value, communicate tradeoffs, and work effectively in ambiguity.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with generative AI, LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, prompt engineering, AI-assisted development, or intelligent automation.
• Experience creating proofs of concept, pilots, or MVPs.
• Familiarity with microservices, data pipelines, vector databases, DevOps, observability tools, responsible AI, security, privacy, and data governance.
• Experience leading technical discussions, mentoring others, and influencing adoption through demos and documentation.
