Platform Technical Lead (OpenShift)

Location: Welwyn Garden City, United Kingdom. Hybrid role with 60% of the week spent collaborating at office locations or local sites and the remainder remotely.

What you will do

• Own the technical design, roadmap, architecture decisions, standards, and evolution of the platform.
• Design and operate OpenShift and Kubernetes infrastructure across containers, virtual machines, hosted control planes, and multiple clusters.
• Build platform-as-a-product capabilities, including API contracts, versioning, documentation, developer experience, and consumption metrics.
• Own production integrity through SLOs, error budgets, capacity planning, observability, incident response, and post-incident engineering changes.
• Develop GitOps, infrastructure-as-code, automation, policy-as-code, and DevOps practices across the platform team.
• Coach engineers, validate technical capability through production evidence, and represent the platform in architecture and cross-team forums.

Requirements

• Proven technical leadership of a platform or product engineering team with accountability for production delivery and design decisions.
• Practical experience designing, building, and operating Red Hat OpenShift at scale, including OpenShift Virtualization or KubeVirt, lifecycle management, and upgrades.
• Expert knowledge of Kubernetes internals, including scheduling, resource management, RBAC, admission control, CNI, CSI, etcd, the API server, and ingress.
• Experience with hosted control planes, GitOps delivery using Argo CD or equivalent, multi-cluster management, policy-as-code, and infrastructure automation.
• Working proficiency in Ansible or equivalent automation tools and at least one of Go, Python, or Bash.
• Experience with API-first platform design, observability using Prometheus, Alertmanager, and Grafana or equivalent, and highly available distributed systems.

Nice to have

• CKA, CKS, or Red Hat certifications in OpenShift administration, OpenShift Virtualization, or RHCE.
• Large-scale VMware-to-OpenShift migration experience using MTV or equivalent tooling.
• Bare-metal provisioning with ZTP or Metal3 and experience with host lifecycle management.
• Experience with ODF/Ceph, SAN/NAS, S3-compatible storage, CSI drivers, backup, disaster recovery, OADP/Velero, or Veeam.
