Security Engineer III (AI)

Location: Welwyn Garden City, United Kingdom. Hybrid working with 60% of the week spent collaborating at office locations or local sites and the remainder remotely.

What you will do

• Design, build, test, and operationalise innovative security capabilities from concept through production.
• Apply AI and automation to cyber defence use cases such as enrichment, reasoning support, detection ideation, and engineering productivity.
• Develop secure, maintainable, test-driven tools, automations, and services using modern software engineering practices.
• Define evaluation strategies and test functionality to validate control effectiveness, prevent regressions, and demonstrate defensive improvements.
• Set engineering direction, promote code quality and release standards, and share knowledge across security and technology teams.
• Work with Cyber Threat Intelligence, Detection Engineering, and Security Automation Engineering teams to shape and deliver a shared roadmap.

Requirements

• Demonstrable experience applying AI to cyber defence and translating high-value use cases into safe engineering outcomes.
• Experience designing or reviewing AI-enabled systems, including data flows, model and tool selection, orchestration, controls, security, and operability.
• Strong understanding of technical security architecture, cyber defence technology, telemetry, detection and response tooling, and automation ecosystems.
• Strong programming capability with experience building production-grade tools, automations, or services.
• Experience with secure, test-driven engineering, automated testing, disciplined change control, and solution evaluation.
• Strong data analytics, strategic problem-solving, communication, influencing, research, and change leadership capabilities.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of AI governance, compliance, responsible AI, privacy, data protection, and risk management.
• Experience with CI/CD, development lifecycle practices, Jira, product delivery, technical interviewing, or professional contributions.
• Familiarity with hirify.global’s technology and retail context, Zendesk, and xMatters for incident workflows and on-call engagement.
