Senior Software Java Engineer - Customer API

Location: Welwyn Garden City, United Kingdom; hybrid work with 60% of the week at office locations or local sites

What you will do

• Develop and support high-quality software solutions for the Customer API using Java and JVM technologies.
• Build robust, scalable, and efficient microservices and take ownership of their reliability, maintainability, and performance.
• Work with Azure, Terraform, CI/CD practices, monitoring, alerting, and vulnerability-management tools.
• Maintain technical documentation and apply architectural, security, and secure-coding standards.
• Use data-driven decision-making to balance short-term and long-term goals and make appropriate technical trade-offs.
• Mentor engineers, lead projects from a technical or project perspective, and automate workflows with tools and scripts.

Requirements

• Solid experience delivering Java or other JVM-language software.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS and infrastructure automation with Terraform.
• Good understanding of SQL, PostgreSQL, and NoSQL databases such as Cosmos DB.
• Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools including Splunk, xMatters, or New Relic.
• Experience with Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban and with system design.
• Good English communication skills and experience taking ownership of projects or leading teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with JavaScript or TypeScript.
• Experience with Spring Boot or Micronaut.
