Senior Java Software Engineer - Quote API - Engineering Enablement

hirify.global develops technology for Tesco’s retail operations, including the mission-critical Quote pricing and promotions platform serving more than 28 million UK shoppers weekly.

What you will do

• Build and maintain shared components for Quote Modernisation, including Micronaut application templates, feature flagging, canary releases, and standardised logging and metrics libraries.
• Drive adoption of internal platform components and collaborate with engineering teams to ensure they solve real development needs.
• Establish automated quality gates for code coverage, static analysis, performance, and security.
• Improve developer workflows, CI/CD performance, onboarding, documentation, build times, test feedback, and local development.
• Design and implement robust, scalable Java systems using JVM expertise, modern concurrency, TDD, BDD, and SOLID principles.
• Support production systems, resolve incidents, mentor engineers, and contribute to architectural decisions and internal engineering knowledge-sharing.

Requirements

• Strong experience with Java 8+, modern language features, and JVM internals.
• Hands-on experience with Azure, AWS, or GCP, plus SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience designing and scaling distributed systems.
• Experience owning or materially improving CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or Azure Pipelines.
• Experience with shared internal tooling, platform capabilities, developer libraries, documentation, and workflow improvements.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and reactive programming, with willingness to adopt virtual threads.

Nice to have

• Experience with Micronaut, standardised application templates, or golden-path tooling.
• Experience with eCommerce, pricing, or high-throughput API systems.
• Familiarity with DORA metrics and data-driven engineering improvements.
