Intern, Applied Technologies (Automation, Robotics)

Location: Norwood, Massachusetts, United States; in-person 70/30 work model. The internship runs from June 7, 2027 to August 20, 2026, and requires availability for the full duration.

Salary: $20.00–$60.00 per hour.

What you will do

• Contribute to an automation, robotics, or systems engineering project.
• Develop, configure, and test laboratory automation systems, robotic platforms, instruments, and related software.
• Execute experiments, characterize systems, troubleshoot issues, and collect performance data.
• Analyze experimental results and support engineering decisions with documented findings.
• Develop or modify scripts, workflows, automation methods, and simple software tools.
• Prepare test plans, technical documentation, diagrams, work instructions, presentations, and project summaries.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree in engineering, computer science, bioengineering, robotics, automation, life sciences, or a related technical discipline.
• Coursework or project experience in programming, robotics, laboratory automation, electrical or mechanical systems, systems engineering, data analysis, or biological sciences.
• Interest in applying engineering or digital technologies to scientific problems.
• Strong problem-solving, organizational, collaboration, and technical communication skills.
• Must qualify as a U.S. person under U.S. export-control laws; non-U.S. persons are not eligible and visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Programming experience with Python, C#, JavaScript, MATLAB, or a similar language.
• Hands-on experience with automation, robotics, laboratory instruments, liquid handlers, sensors, microcontrollers, or electromechanical systems.
• Familiarity with CAD, Git/version control, data visualization, or engineering analysis tools.
• Experience designing experiments or structured technical tests.
• Exposure to biotechnology, pharmaceutical development, machine learning, computer vision, autonomous systems, or advanced robotics.
