TL;DR
Hardware Engineering Intern (Robotics) (Mechanical/Mechatronics): Building and testing robotic-arm and mobile-platform subsystems for data collection and model training operations with an accent on mechanical, electrical, embedded, and software integration. Focus on hands-on prototyping, CAN bus and motor-control debugging, subsystem ownership from CAD to PCB, and data-driven reliability improvements.

Location: San Francisco, on-site

Company

hirify.global develops robotic arms, mobile platforms, and end-effectors that support data collection and model training operations.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and test robotic subsystems covering actuation, sensing, enclosures, and power systems.
  • Bring up, assemble, calibrate, and reliability-test robotic arms, lifts, mobile bases, and end-effectors in the hardware lab.
  • Integrate mechanical, electrical, embedded, and software inputs to diagnose mission-critical issues and improve system performance.
  • Analyze deployment data to guide design iterations and reliability improvements.
  • Own subsystem development from CAD and PCB work through bench testing.

Requirements

  • Completed at least three years of Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering; students earlier in their studies with exceptional projects, portfolios, GitHub repositories, or work experience may also be considered.
  • Strong mechanical and electromechanical design fundamentals, including dynamic loading, FEA, and DFM.
  • Familiarity with embedded and mechatronic systems, CAN, BLDC control, and motor controllers.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as NX, Onshape, or SolidWorks and rapid prototyping methods including SLA/FDM 3D printing and laser cutting.
  • Basic electrical design and debugging skills, including schematics, soldering, and test equipment.
  • Experience with data-driven debugging and test planning using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools.

Nice to have

  • Exposure to manufacturing or assembly environments.
  • Experience in robotics, autonomous systems, or hardware startups.

Culture & Benefits

  • Hands-on work in a hardware lab with rapid prototyping and real-world robot deployments.
  • Cross-disciplinary collaboration across mechanical, electrical, embedded, and software engineering.
  • Internship duration: January–May 2027.
