Engineering Lead (AWS)

Location: Edinburgh or Newcastle, United Kingdom; hybrid working with typically 2 days per week onsite

Salary: Up to £89,640 per year plus annual bonus and benefits

What you will do

• Lead, develop, and inspire an AWS Platform Engineering team.
• Define and deliver the AWS platform strategy, roadmap, and technology investment priorities.
• Drive Infrastructure as Code, automation, self-service provisioning, and platform engineering standards.
• Own AWS landing zones, governance frameworks, guardrails, and operational standards.
• Ensure cloud platforms meet security, compliance, resilience, availability, and scalability requirements.
• Improve cloud operations through observability, incident management, resilience testing, disaster recovery, and FinOps.

Requirements

• Leadership experience in platform, cloud, or infrastructure engineering teams within enterprise-scale AWS environments.
• Experience owning platform strategy, roadmaps, technology investment decisions, and cloud cost optimization.
• Strong Infrastructure as Code expertise with Terraform and AWS CloudFormation.
• Deep knowledge of cloud networking, IAM, AWS Organizations, Control Tower, security controls, and highly available platform design.
• Technical expertise in EKS and container platforms, CI/CD automation, platform APIs, self-service provisioning, observability, and SRE practices.
• Strong stakeholder and vendor management skills, with experience developing high-performing teams.
