Senior Backend Engineer (Distributed Systems)

Location: 100% remote within the United States

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate large-scale distributed backend systems and high-throughput services using Java, Go, Scala, or similar languages.
• Architect data partitioning, replication, consistency, and storage strategies for different workload requirements.
• Build resilient APIs and event-driven services with observability, idempotency, graceful degradation, and robust failure-handling patterns.
• Optimize latency, throughput, reliability, and cost through profiling, benchmarking, load testing, and capacity planning.
• Lead architecture reviews, technical design discussions, incident response, post-incident learning, and long-term platform strategy.
• Mentor engineers, maintain technical documentation, and partner with SRE and platform teams to improve reliability and reduce operational toil.

Requirements

• Must be authorized to work in the United States; U.S. citizens, Green Card holders, EAD holders, and H-1B transfer candidates are encouraged to apply.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• At least six years of professional backend engineering experience, including significant distributed-systems experience; the position listing specifies 10+ years of experience.
• Strong programming skills in Java, Go, Scala, or a similar high-performance language, plus deep knowledge of consensus, replication, and CAP trade-offs.
• Experience with Kafka, relational and NoSQL data stores, major cloud platforms, system operations at scale, debugging, root-cause analysis, documentation, and mentorship.
