Mid/Sr Software Development Engineer (US Federal)

Location: Reston, Virginia, United States; may require onsite work at client locations in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area. The role spends at least 50% of each quarter in the office or in the field.

Annual base salary: $123,900–$222,000 USD.

What you will do

• Design, build, deploy, monitor, and scale machine learning runtime environments.
• Develop infrastructure automation and CI/CD pipelines for cloud-based platforms.
• Architect and operate distributed messaging, streaming, caching, NoSQL, and microservices infrastructure.
• Build client libraries, SDKs, monitoring services, and automation for large-scale clusters.
• Collaborate with application and machine learning teams to improve platform adoption and engineering efficiency.
• Provide rotating on-call support and maintain technical documentation and runbooks.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required because the role supports U.S. federal government contracts.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance at the TS/SCI with CI Poly level; an active clearance is preferred.
• At least 3 years of DevOps experience for the mid-level role or 5 years for the senior role, including infrastructure automation and CI/CD pipeline development.
• Proficiency in Python, system design, technical documentation, Kubernetes or Docker, Terraform, Git, Jenkins, and ArgoCD.
• Experience with distributed systems, REST services, service-oriented architecture, microservices, monitoring, Grafana, and enterprise SaaS products.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related technical field, with strong problem-solving, collaboration, leadership, or mentoring skills.

Nice to have

• Machine learning background.
• Specialty certifications such as CompTIA CySA+, GICSP, or CASP+.
• DoD 8570/8140 compliance with at least IAT Level II certification and a current Computing Environment credential.
