Staff+ Software Engineer (Storage + Transfer)

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY; hybrid policy requiring staff to work from an office at least 25% of the time

What you will do

• Shape the technical strategy and architecture for exabyte-scale, multi-cloud storage layers.
• Translate research, training, infrastructure, business, and data-team needs into scalable storage designs.
• Make architectural tradeoffs across durability, availability, consistency, performance, security, and cost.
• Lead cross-functional delivery of storage capabilities, including large migrations with minimal user disruption.
• Build consistent interfaces across backend stacks, abstraction layers, clients, infrastructures, and regions.
• Improve operations through SLOs, observability, capacity planning, incident response, on-call, and hands-on production coding.

Requirements

• Production experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed storage systems such as object stores, distributed file systems, or block storage services.
• Deep knowledge of replication, erasure coding, consistency models, metadata management, durability, failure handling, high availability, access controls, identity, security, networking, and multi-region systems.
• Experience owning or serving as a technical lead or architect for complex infrastructure relied on by organizations and customers.
• Strong software engineering and hands-on coding ability in at least one systems language: C++, Rust, Go, or Java.
• Experience operating critical infrastructure at scale, including security, on-call, incident response, capacity planning, customer support, and cost efficiency.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or professional experience, plus strong written and verbal communication skills.
