Head of Engineering (AI)

Location: London, hybrid. The engineering organisation spans London, New York, Washington DC, and Gold Coast, with flexible remote working arrangements available.

Salary: £150,000–£180,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

What you will do

• Own and evolve the technical strategy and engineering roadmap in partnership with the Chief Technical Architect.
• Lead 2–3 Tech Leads and hold accountability for the performance, growth, and wellbeing of an approximately 15-person developer organisation.
• Improve engineering operations, including delivery processes, engineering standards, on-call practices, monitoring, triage, incident response, and recovery.
• Establish engineering metrics and reporting covering team health, delivery predictability, and performance.
• Partner with Product, Design, People, and GTM leadership and represent Engineering in enterprise customer scoping sessions.
• Build a high-performance engineering culture focused on ownership, quality, knowledge-sharing, succession planning, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years in senior engineering leadership roles.
• Experience managing engineering leaders such as Tech Leads or Engineering Managers, rather than only individual contributors.
• Strong technical grounding in TypeScript-based stacks such as React, NestJS, and Express, and/or Python.
• Comfort with cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices, including Kubernetes and Terraform.
• Experience building engineering operations, incident management, monitoring, and delivery processes in a scaling SaaS environment.
• Experience with enterprise SaaS products, AI-driven SaaS, NLP, or LLMs, plus the ability to operate with C-suite and senior leadership stakeholders.
