Technician, Purification (Biotech)

Location: Monrovia, California, United States; laboratory-based onsite role. The initial training period follows a Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM schedule. The permanent schedule is a four-day, 10-hour schedule: Saturday–Wednesday or Wednesday–Saturday.

Salary: $70,500–$78,000 annually, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Develop and optimize analytical and preparative purification methods using reversed-phase and normal-phase HPLC, mass-directed prep-HPLC, flash chromatography, LC/SFC-MS, and related platforms.
• Analyze crude reaction mixtures and purified compounds using UPLC/HPLC-UV, LC-MS, and, when needed, NMR.
• Operate an open-access, walk-up LC-MS and purification service with rapid sample assessment and turnaround.
• Track sample identity, recovery, yield, purity, and analytical data throughout purification workflows.
• Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and vendor coordination for analytical and preparative instruments and software.
• Maintain compliant records, follow laboratory safety and waste procedures, and contribute to workflow improvement and cross-team projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related discipline.
• Hands-on experience with analytical and preparative chromatography, including HPLC/UPLC and prep-HPLC.
• Working knowledge of reverse-phase and normal-phase chromatography, mobile and stationary phase selection, and related chemistry.
• Strong attention to detail, disciplined sample tracking, data integrity habits, and the ability to manage high sample throughput.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to work onsite in a laboratory environment, stand for extended periods, and lift laboratory items weighing up to approximately 40 pounds.

Nice to have

• Bachelor’s degree with 1–3+ years of relevant industry experience, or a master’s degree with 0+ years of experience.
• Experience operating and troubleshooting chromatography and mass spectrometry hardware and software.
• Experience with LC-MS, GC-MS, MS-MS, mass-directed preparative purification, automated open-access platforms, or NMR interpretation.
• Experience supporting medicinal chemistry or small-molecule drug discovery programs in a pharmaceutical or CRO setting.
• Familiarity with instrument automation, electronic laboratory notebooks, and chromatography data systems.
