Data Science Neuroscience PhD Co-op

Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. Full-time, 40 hours per week, for the Spring 2027 co-op period from January 4 through June 30, 2027.

Salary: $23.50–$52.50 per hour, depending on program year, discipline, degree, and experience.

What you will do

• Build and analyze a large single-cell and multi-omics atlas for neuropsychiatry.
• Benchmark methods for mapping cell-cell communication networks in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
• Identify disease-associated cell states, ligand-receptor disruptions, signaling pathways, and intercellular biological circuits.
• Apply AI, machine learning, network biology, and foundation models to prioritize therapeutic targets.
• Integrate single-cell findings with genetic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and other multimodal datasets.
• Collaborate with data science, precision medicine, neuroscience, and discovery teams, and present findings in scientific publications and conferences.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, systems biology, biomedical sciences, neuroscience, computer science, data science, or a related quantitative discipline.
• Strong programming skills in Python and/or R, including effective use of AI-assisted coding.
• Experience analyzing high-dimensional multimodal biological datasets, preferably single-cell RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, proteomics, or genomics data.
• Familiarity with machine learning, statistics, and computational biology methods.
• Strong scientific communication and presentation skills.
• Must be permanently authorized to work in the United States without current or future employment visa sponsorship, remain enrolled throughout the co-op, work 40 hours per week, and have a minimum GPA of 3.

Nice to have

• Experience with graph analytics, network biology, knowledge graphs, or generative AI.
• Familiarity with cell-cell communication tools such as LIANA+, CellChat, or MultiNicheNet, as well as pathway analysis and systems biology.
